After the judicial system of Margush issues the death sentence the accused are given to the Taker who offers a final appeal before dragging them to the bottom of the lake.

The Taker is fair and impartial, but presumes the guilt of those delivered into its charge and requires incontrovertible proof of innocence before it will free a prisoner without punishment.
