Last Stand

Initial Brief

Depending on which circles you move in (and thus how many layers of Chinese whispers have occurred) you will hear of a mission which falls somewhere between the following:

- Senta Fernbach is leading a mission into the heart of Tuireann in order to make co-existence more achievable, this will be a very challenging mission with great risks, but also potentially great rewards for the Humanity.

- THE WARRIOR IS LEADING A HOLY CRUSADE INTO TUIREANN ITSELF. WE SHALL DESTROY THE UNHOLY BEAST SUCH THAT IT CAN NEVER AGAIN THREATEN OUR CHILDREN. THOUGH OUR SOULS WILL BE DESTROYED THEIR HOLY FIRE SHALL BURN EVIL FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH.

PCs

Debrief

The party initially heads to the resting place of the Tender’s Hoe. The attempt to recover this is a disaster, mitigated only by their successful retrieval of the Hoe. While some members of the village survive, most do not. The few survivors of the village have left to retrieve the hoe and punish those who took it from them.

Following this the party return to Acryn and are met by a militia who want to help with Senta’s crusade. After some discussion, Senta agrees to allow them to come with her and they all enter the dragon. Most of the militia die during the initial incursion, but the party are able to push through the draconic sentries quickly due to their help.

After this the party face a constant barrage of draconic forces as they attempt to find the heart of Tuireann. Eventually finding the heart the party discuss whether to allow Dragon Slayer to include human sacrifice as part of its ritual, eventually agreeing to allow the sword to kill both Armand and Marlo as part of the ritual. While this disagreement goes on, Hugh attempts to influence Tuireann by merging part of it with Triskelion, Hugh is never seen again.

In the aftermath of the ritual Thorn rushes to help Rodrigo as Senta’s body flees the area (in the control of Dragon Slayer). They eventually find their way out of Tuireann and into the city of Strossbourg, picking up some survivors along the way. Over the next few weeks Thorn uses the libraries of Strossbourg to learn how to operate the Dragon Gate. Six weeks since they left the city, Rodrigo and Thorn return to a city greatly changed.

About a week after the party entered Tuireann, leaflets encouraging the populace to revolt flooded the streets, enough people took up the charge that Acryn’s state of emergency was increased, a curfew has been declared, and the City Council has been disbanded. Following Mayor Salic’s death at the hands of a revolter, Lord Protector Caulo Graves is now ensuring the safety of the city with an iron grip. Preparations are underway to evacuate reality, although no suitable destination has yet been identified.

Rodrigo provides Marlow’s letter to his family, and is met by a very serious boy who attempts to comfort Rodrigo about having to deliver this news. Next, Rodrigo gets told off by a Tender priest for his involvement in the recovery of the Hoe, and confesses to the watch about his various crimes (getting himself arrested in the process).

Armand's priests feels a great loss, and mourn their death. Their power returns after a while, with different priests coming to different conclusions about what this means: some think the temporary outage shows their involvement in the revolution was wrong, others think it shows they disappointed The Revolution by not going far enough.

Outcomes

  • Following a powerful wounding ritual, multiple miracles, and the sacrifice of 3 people, Tuireann’s behaviour towards humanity has changed dramatically. People are no longer killed when they enter Tuireann’s forests, and those who have a direct connection to Tuireann are no longer directed to hurt humanity.
  • Brother Millar now has personal power and divine favour of the warrior. And a full body tattoo of the warrior.
  • Thorn gains access to the Gatemaster epic tree.
  • Rodrigo is assigned to a new organisation within the city which is full of, for lack of a better term, monsters. The organisation reports directly to Corlo and appears to deploy on missions of great risk and value to the city and Corlo. Rodrigo gains the Owned quirk and access to the Organisation Ties (Orchyd), but cannot buy any skills in the tree until pleasing his superiors (a successful mission for each rank). Rodrigo now has a magical collar which is used by his handler to watch what he is doing, provide instructions, deliver punishments, and if necessary blow his head off (all handled at GM discretion).
